Newman, Therapy Dog
Newman is a fully trained service dog from New Horizons Service Dogs, Inc. a 501 (c)(3) organization in Sanford, FL. After two years of training, which included two weeks of handler training with Dana, Newman arrived at Dana L. Johnson Pediatric Therapy Services in 2014 to support clients and their families. Since then, Newman has worked with many children and their parents to support therapy and family goals. Newman is trained to support children with autism spectrum disorders, anxiety related disorders, and emotional regulation challenges to name a few. He also supports language and communication through social groups and opportunities for engagement.
Now, Newman is a full time “team member” at InterPLAY Learning Academy. Even though he’s in the school environment, Newman still supports our students in very similar ways. His favorite activity is listening to our students talk about their day; sometimes it’s a good day, other times it’s not so good. Newman is one that they can always count on to be supportive. Newman loves spending time with all our students and families and looks forward to meeting you soon!
